Compress video
Make a short video smaller. It is compressed on your device and never uploaded.
How it works
- Drop an MP4 or MOV video onto the page, or choose one from your device.
- Choose the quality and the maximum width.
- Select Compress, then download the MP4.
Questions
- Is my video uploaded anywhere?
- No. Compression runs in your browser, on your device. Your video, its name and its frames never leave your device and are never sent to a server.
- What are the limits?
- Videos up to 2 minutes and 200 MB for now. Your device does the work, so longer clips would be slow and could run out of memory.
- Why does it say my browser cannot encode video?
- Compression uses the video encoder built into your browser. Chrome, Edge, Safari 17 and later, and Firefox 130 and later have it. Older browsers do not.
- How much smaller will it get?
- It depends on the video. Phone videos often shrink a lot, but one that is already compressed may barely change. We show the size before and after.
- Which videos work?
- MP4 and MOV files with common video formats such as H.264. If your video uses a format we cannot read, we tell you.
